“Why do I need to do a garden survey?”
Good question! Drawing up a scale drawing is something a garden designer would do, and although it may seem like a lot of work and fuss, it’s really worthwhile. You can try out different ideas on paper beforehand. And once you’ve got a plan, you can use it for years. It means that you don’t have to do everything at once if you don’t have time, or the budget, but can plan your garden long-term.
We’ll also be using your scale drawing to make a sun and shade map of your garden, to see where the shadows fall at different times of year.
We’ll work through how to measure your garden and plot it out on paper during our session. If you need some reminders, or want to get ahead, there’s a very clear and useful video here (some of this video gives more detail than you’ll need). You’ll need the garden design equipment listed in the Garden Design Equipment page (click on the menu on the left).
